Recently, I did an informative article about being a Recessionista by giving tips on how to save money. It is so hard to keep up with all the expenses and material items we want and/or need. I did some research and compiled a list of life's little joys that that are absolutely free yet we tend to take for granted. My personal opinion? I'll take these 25 items over any Louie bag any day!!!

1) That look your dog, your cat, your monkey, or your ferret gives you. Those sad, hush puppy eyes that always melts your heart away.

2) Being nice to people! Don't you feel better when you do something nice for someone and don't expect anything back? That smile they give you of appreciation? Did you know that kindness is what separates us from being animals?? Offer your seat to an elderly or a female (chivalry, anyone?) hold a door for, gosh sakes, smile! Someone could be falling in love with it.

3) Ever heard of a library card? Guess what? IT'S FREE! Go to the library in your town and you can even browse the internet and read the Millennium Triology, borrow all these great dvd's for the twentieth time and legally borrow music to download! Plus, they always offer different kinds of free classes from adults to toddlers. Support your local library, man.

4) Go on a nature walk, it's good for you too. Research shows that being outdoors, taking nature walks, camping, can all relieve you from stress, and lower your blood pressure. Hearing outdoor sounds and seeing the bigger picture of life can really make you feel balanced.

5) Ponte a coquetiar! A coqui what ?? Flirt! Doesn't matter if you've just got a little crush on a guy/girl on the train you always see, been with your girl/boyfriend for only two months or with your wife/husband of 15 years… its always great to add some spice to your life. That rush we get when we are smitten and giddy about someone always makes you feel good.

6) Everyone always says time is money. Depends on how you think about it. Stop thinking about money for a second and look at your kids, look at your momma, smell the flowers! I believe time is the most valuable asset we have. How are you going to invest your time? Enjoy.

7) A nice hot bath or shower after a long day. You could have the "worst day ever" but once you hit the showers or take a nice bubble bath; it all just seems to go away. Wash away those stresses. Put some Sade on. Light some smelly-good-stuff candles. Breathe.

8) Naps. It is a proven fact that your body functions so much better once you've have had a nap. In other parts of the world societies revolve around "siestas". Classes are either in the morning or in the afternoon. You either get to be done with school early or go to school late. Shops close from 2pm to 4pm in the afternoon. People take naps. It's normal. Just not in America, unfortunately. (Who wants to start a petition?) Word to the wise: Take naps in 20 minute, 60 minute, or 90 minute intervals. Sleeping for longer than that or in between can make you feel groggy and worse than before.

9) Silence & solitude helps me really go into some deep thinking. Even though I'm constantly on the go, I love that feeling when I'm driving in my car after a big event or radio show. I can't use my phone, radio is off, just looking at the road. No twitter, facebook, bbm, internet. It wouldn't kill you to shut off your Iphone or Blackberry sometimes.

10) Musica Maestro! Many times I've used the subway or have had to walk like a crazy person around in the city. Most of the time I'm either stressing about what to cook for dinner or what I have to type up next. It's a nice distraction when you hear someone performing you're favorite 80's song or see a group of cool break dancers. You can't help but smile and appreciate it.

11) Your good, old friends pick up your drunk phone calls at 2am, make you laugh till you cry, know about all the times you've embarrassed yourself, never tell any of your secrets, and are probably not an any social network (and they don't understand your addiction).

12) Becoming friends with new people especially ones that share interests that your good, old friends don't really understand is exciting! You can learn interesting, new things about each other that will in turn mold you to decide who you are and what you really want from life.

13) Getting a good night's sleep is the best thing you can have I believe, for free. It is proven that it helps with making you think better, be better, and sleeping well prolongs aging. Less wrinkles, guys! In other words, sleeping 8 hours a night is the "mythological" fountain of youth!

14) Know who you are. Therapy is said to help you find out who you are. Why spend the money on therapy?? Ask yourself: Do you know who you are? Do you know what what makes you tick? Do you know how to make YOU feel good about yourself? All you need is will, time to reflect, and either a pen or keyboard. Ask yourself. Don't be scared to find out how great you are.

15) Super Spring! My favorite season is FREE! Its not cold yet not hot. Perfect. Feels great and the fashion looks fresh! Everything is in full bloom. A gentle, happy warning that summer is almost coming :)

16) The darnest things kids say. They're innocent randomness can make even the grumpiest person's day. "Hey miss, you're so pretty" (BiG SMiLE) or asking you if you could name your next child Spongebob. It will never get old for me.

17) Forgive and Forget. Saying your wrong is never easy but it does help us let go of any guilt we have. Forgiving someone that hurt you also helps you let go of any resentment.

18) Hugs, cuddles, caresses, making out, and soft kisses. Enough said.

19) Confidence is the name of the best outfit you've ever owned. Ever heard of "Clothing doesn't make the man, the man makes the clothes." You don't get it from a new pair of shoes. So you should already know it comes from inside.

20) You know family can drive us crazy sometimes but the sense of community you feel when your with people that you hold dear to your heart is irreplaceable. We all come from somewhere, and to know that someone loves you even when they hate you.

21) Partying it up! It could be just you and someone else. You could be sweating it up with 20 friends or dancing in the shower like no one is watching! Jamming to your preferred choice of music is one of the best things about life.

22) To be understood. One of the most powerful things in life is knowing that someone, whoever it may be, understands you and what you are going through.

23) The most beautiful light show on earth. Watching the sunset or the sunrise. Priceless.

24) Bedtime. Whether your going to bed after a fresh shower from a stressful day or tucking in your mini-you and kissing them on the forehead, these are the sweetest moments of the day.

25) Life can be super hard. But knowing that you've gave it your all is a feeling of pride that no one can take from you not for all the money in the world. Self-satisfaction is all about knowing you put your best foot forward no matter what happened.

CELEBRITY INTERVIEW WITH MIGUEL PERDOMO, AND ARTISTS I AM PURE AND J MCFLY

CELEBRITY INTERVIEW ON URBAN LATINO RADIO BY HOST JACKIE DA MODEL OF THE "JACKIE SPEAKS SHOW" THURSDAYS 8-10PM EST WWW.URBANLATINORADIO.FM

SUPERMODEL MIGUEL PERDOMO, ARTIST JOHNNY MEDINA “J MCFLY”, AND ARTIST I AM PURE

According to our interview here is a little bit about each individual...you may also google them!

MIGUEL PERDOMO:
Perdomo now 28 years old, has been a male model for ten years. He began modeling after going to a phat farm casting with a friend and being chosen. It wasn't planned. He started work with Diddy (Sean Puffy Combs) 6 years ago for Sean Jean Men's Wear. His First agent was Drew..he moved on to 2 others after that. He is now with Ford Models Agency. YES as you can imagine he has been hit on by both women and men in the industry who tried to intervene with his work! "There are some Flames out there on the low" he said. His favorite shoot was the Louie Vuitton shoot in Dominican Republic because he got to visit his country of heritage plus flew his entire family to go with him. He was paid over 25k, that didn't include the accommodating flights for himself and family. He does not speak to anyone directly for work, everything must go thru his manager. "Its all politics"-said Perdomo. The young Miguel Perdomo invested his time in Boxing and Basketball, now that he has an image to uphold the boxing had to be put on hold. He loved to fight in the ring or on the streets, but cannot risk any flaws to his face or body given his career. He is now waiting for a decision after a recent shoot for Polo done a lil over a month ago. When asked, he confirmed that he too is always anxious and doesn't prefer to wait on getting pictures back..he enjoys being able to show them almost immediately (LIKE ME!) lol. In his spare time he works out a lot, and plays basketball when able. He has to control his weight gain and loss periodically so its very important that he attends the gym. He is also a fit-model for Foot Locker Corporate and Sean John. He agrees that most of the people in the industry have day jobs, because we need em!..Taxes are what kills you, and needing health insurance etc.. He and Johnny Medina met in 2008 when Johnny tried to sell him a tee shirt out of his trunk..they spoke about each others talents and then began working together Johnny for his music, Miguel for his Fashion and guidance..they are part of "The Justice League" a personal crew among their peers. Miguel Perdomo is single when asked his reply was "I'm always single", "Moneys my girl" .. but also said "I am seeing someone, nothing serious yet".

Johnny Medina has 2 singles out "Sunglasses at Night" and "Novella". He says "You have to be really cool to wear your sunglasses at night", Miguel adds "Yea, No white shoes guys" (to the uptown cats. Johnny calls himself "J. McFly" he has been doing music for 10-11 years now. He feels his single Novella was inspired by everyone who lives a "movie" like life, and women are also an influence to the song. Johnny is currently seeing someone..aaawwwww GIMMIE $20! lol.

I Am Pure singer of "Body Talk" single is currently finalizing editing on the music video for the song. The video was directed by Tat Wza of Hot 97 and Druski. When asked how long hes been doing music, he said awhile but he just recently dropped "Body Talk" in June and the feedback was remarkable. Body Talk was the hit that took off for him in his hometown NJ. He kept grinding, and had every NJ DJ playing the song so much that the on air DJs from out of town had no choice but to play his record. "In order to have a club poppin, you gotta play a PURE record". The opening DJs would get such a crowd reaction that the closers (headliner DJs) asked the openers/hometown DJs about PUREs record personally. Getting the record played in all nightclubs is what lead to the radio play that he has today, the interviews, and the performance bookings. He looks like a rapper but is actually a singer, and loves that image. His inspiration for "Body Talk" record was for "Freedom of Expression" for all people of all types and ages. There is a possible remix in the works.. I predict a female on the track.. but right now we gonna have to say ALLEDGEDLY until he surprises us. PURE states " People I stood in line for to buy their albums recognize me and have asked to work together, legendary people"-cant drop names on it tho. DJs that opened up for FLEX of HOT97 felt proud when the record was broken on air, as they had it and played it first..they felt as if they "made it" in a way thru the industry. "My people who held me down will get the remix and or next track first" said PURE. His hobbies include basketball, he is very aggressive on the courts and talks smack at 5'6'' believe it or not. I challenged him live on air lol. He says Basketball is so NOW.. you have to play offense, defense and just act on it w/o time to stop. Pure is fresh out of a relationship, which he did value and is not looking but doesn't deny that he would be interested if it came his way. His song was released and had nothing to do with his breakup FYI.

when we chatted about Facebook..the guys all agreed with my idea for a "Punch you in the face" option. Miguel wants a "I hate you" or a "dislike" button.

"The younger man"

Dating in this day and age is hard enough, first impression is everything... Right? I see bad relationships on a daily basis and if that isn't discouraging enough, there are just too many "bad guys" or girls out there! (Pause for heavy sigh). Society makes it ok for a older man to date a younger woman and that's ok, naturally a woman is at a 5 year difference in maturity then a man younger then her, possibly more in my case. (Usually my luck!) But what about some of those instances where it works out? Take Demi more and Ashton they seem to make it work and he's damn near close to the age of her older daughter. But in the public eye, those who grew up in front of a camera grow up faster. I guess, but what about in "real life" is it possible for an older woman to be with a younger man even if there not on the same wave length? Maybe when they are both at a happy med and both are mature, but what about in there early 20s? And if so how can you make it work?

I have this personal joke with friends that everyone now a days is 23 years old, I came to this observation since all I meet are 23 year olds or if they aren't, they are 22 a month or 2 away from 23 or about to turn 24, but always in that range! I don't know if half of them are lying or what but trust me, now that I have said it you'll notice it too!! I'm not old and in my early 20s however its safe to say I have an old soul and feel a lot older then what I am anyways lol. I had been in a relationship with a younger man when I was 20 and he was 18, (he lied of his age when we met) you may not think this is a huge gap but this kid was all over the place! He had a good heart but was the biggest player I know! However he was very young and just getting his feet wet in dating so I don’t hold a grudge to that.

Its hard enough to be a woman now a days trying to settle yourself with no help and live your dream all your own, then have a younger guy who's still trying to figure it all out when you passed that long ago! It’s difficult to say the least. What if a woman is 26 and the guy just turned 24? Do you think that would work? A 2-year gap is a lot more in emotional years! As my sisters boyfriend has said, a “24 year old man is 14 in girl years” lol. I know this girl in this age situation and at times they are great from what I see! Seem happy, however although she seems content with the way it is and isn't pushing it to go further, he does things that set her back! She's attentive, and takes his time seriously where as he's always on a whim. She meets him and if she's trying to talk, he's on his skateboard barely paying attention. She makes her way to see him and the only times he's done it for her is last min. As though his other plans failed or he's done what was better b4 choosing her. Hmmm I don't know what this seems like, or what else it could be, maybe another woman or maybe just a huge gap in maturity. I say both and mainly another woman… and dun duuunnn duuuunnn.. I was actually correct! She found out too little too late! Ah well.

Ladies if you catch yourself in this situation then may I suggest you weigh the options, pros and cons. If its something that you feel is more good then bad and might possibly grow then stick around and enjoy yourself it can get better. But in any relationship no matter age or matter reason, if it’s bad its bad and don't ever expect anyone to change or join you on a page they aren't ready for! Save yourself the trouble and let it go!
In every relationship beginning there is always a point and time where you have that chance to break free, the time where you pause and you know you can leave b4 you get attached! That's when you really need to get it right, because after that you just get in way too deep! Well that's it for my opinion on this! Good luck to all in any relationship.

Talk to ya soon!

Lets Just call this an introduction

By Jillian Valentin
twitter.com/JillianValentin
JillianV@urbanlatinoradio.fm

Loyalty is a small word that has a big meaning. Not too many people in this industry have the definition of that word locked in there brain. However as tainted as it may be and in New York itself, it’s less likely to find someone who isn't an artist, producer, personality, model, rapper, label owner, manager, more or all the above. What's crazier is the 6 degrees of separation; where someone you just met knows someone who knows or works with someone you know. In the ups and downs of radio, labels, music fashion any or all the aspects of "the industry", there are a few who are actually in it with an untainted heart, and a passion that continues to be un harmed. People, who actually still believe, are in it for the love of what they do and are genuine people with no ill intentions. Two of those people who I know are... Dun dun duuuunnn... (Pause for reaction) myself and ms Erica Lopez! Yes you knew that was coming!

For those that aren't aware of who we are at Urban Latino Radio, well…. Here's a brief description. Erica Lopez a writer, Dancer, radio host and Public Relations dreamer, who vastly made her dream of being in PR, and Social Media, a paved road to follow in a short amount of time. Still learning about her myself, what I know her dedication is as big as her heart and I'm proud to have her in my life. I’ll let her give you her own introduction. Me hmm well, quickly... Solo Singer, TV host, to rec label intern, to promo dept rec label guru, to assistant at island def jam, to writer to Singer in a 3 member group, to singer in a duo, back to solo artist, to TV host again to Radio Host and so on.. It’s been a long road.

Erica and I met in the Reality Show Pilot "Americas next radio Show host", a competition for the one co-host spot on a show at urbanlatinoradio.com and at first we were cool, then I hated her… Then some how along the way loved her. We didn't win the contest however was brought on to co host "The Talent Show" on Wednesdays with the shows host and solo host its Thursdays in which we subtitled "Thirsty Thursday" it was an amazing time! In that time we both had many ideas running thru our veins so we decided to make it a reality.

One move was, we started our own website, for as we call it "all things amazing" and as a public relations company to up and comers. The inspiration coming from the shows we did at Urban and the backs of Angela the station manager and Alex the station owner. Due to the separation and little tiffs of the radio show it was postponed then ended, on our part and the other co-hosts. Although many of you who loved our silly convos and random chats, with great celeb interviews, The Talent Show was returned to its original format, and as it should have been. Those of you, who were fans, don't be sad, because this is just the beginning!

Because we are still newbies in the radio game and I'm no rookie in front of the camera, and Ms Erica has been strutting her stuff in front as well, we came up with a better way for you guys to have our silliness once again! So here's the intro… We know you loved the radio show even more when we had a live feed. So now joining teams with TheSweeLifeOfJandE.com and our beloved UrbanLatinoRadio.com we bring you weekly webisodes of our first Urban Latino Radio WebTV Show, “The Sweet Life” yes you get to have us a little longer! Besides our blogs on urban, that will be updated regularly we will have our mini show! With our normal crazy selves, celeb interviews, and much much more! We also bring you our new Dj, Dj PM who will be showing you what he has throughout the show!

So now that I have posted my first blog entry on ULR, mixed with a little intro to what's to come, this is me! I will keep you up to date on behind the scenes on urban Latino, celeb parties or sarcastic remarks you just love me putting out there for you!! Besides that I give you my perspective on product reviews, situations of random conversation, relationship info and whatever else I might wanna vent on! ;) So stick around, stay tuned and check out our other great writers, including Erica's blogs. Thanks for being avid fans of urban Latino radio! We effin love you!! ;)
