I don't vouch for a group unless I personally think they are any good, but this duo called Los Rakas definitely deserves our Urban Latino support. They are so versatile I can't even call it!! Here's their bio:
LOS RAKAS (http://www.losrakas.com)...Hailing from Panama but now residing in Oakland, CA, LOS RAKAS (cousins Raka Rico & Raka Dun) blend hip-hop, reggae, plena, romance and dancehall music with Spanish and English lyricism to create songs that are leaving peoples' heads noddin’ and bodies rockin’.
In 2010, they were awarded the 'Artist Discovery' prize naming them the most promising group at the conference (where the group performed with 6-piece B Satz Ensembleat The Bowery Ballroom} by the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) and later went on to play with Manu Chao, Erykah Badu and Cypress Hill at the unprecedented West Coast 'Smoke Out Festival' in November 2010.
December 2010 had the duo on the 18-date, sold-out 'How The Grouch Stole Christmas' Tour with underground hip-hop mainstays, Living Legend's 'The Grouch' andRhymesayer's 'Brother Ali.' Check them out on nationally-syndicated TV show, LatiNation (NBC): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a-26C5rp8A.
This spring, the band tours nationwide thru April 20th with reggae sensation, Collie Buddz on his Playback Tour, which kicks off at SXSW 2011 for the Vibe Magazineshowcase on Friday, March 18th.
