"Wordless Wednesday"

Jillian Valentin
www.Twitter.com/JillianValentin
JillianV@urbanlatinoradio.fm

Wish I had a little more to talk about but I'm just at a loss for words this Wednesday. Due to some personal crap and the fact that I'm sick out of my mind I have writers block!! I started writing something and 2 paragraphs in I realized I hated it lol! I felt as though I was forcing it. Rather that I leave you with something that isn't close to what I'd approve of putting out there for you, I'll just leave this as something I'd rather you write for yourself. So how about I call this my 1st "Wordless Wednesday" here's a picture I took of a paper piece that a photographer that did my sisters headshots made! It’s something that caught my eye and I loved, and it’s just how I feel right now! Enjoy :)

Welcome Amar'e Stoudemire to NY @ Lucky Stikes

Last night was crazy in NYC! Amar'e had an event at Lucky Strikes to help his charity, the Amare Stoudemire Foundation. I arrived there with Amanda Diva first, had her walk the red carpet, photogs were going crazy...I still cant get used to those flashes, so bright! Walked into a cool, lowkey vibe, I was so happy to see different faces, corporate was definitely in the house. Olivia came in shortly after, had her walk the red carpet and I must say, she mastered those poses! Amar'e, Allan Houston,Tracey Morgan, football and basketball players,Danielle Staub (RHONJ), Stephanie Pratt (The Hills) and other celebrities hung out, played pool and even bowled in heels! With DJ MOS on the 1's and 2's it was hard not to have a good time! Overall it was a great night for a great cause. Welcome Amar'e!

DJ Commish / Manik Magazine

Our very own DJ Commish was asked to be part of a hiphop feature for Manik Magazine and yours truly was on hand for the behind the scenes! The shoot was in a Brooklyn brownstone apartment, call time was 1230...we got there about 1pm! DJ Commish was shooting the "Missy and Timbaland" section, an ode to HipHop. We had some great looks, thanks to RockSmith Tokyo and LaVie Clothing for giving us great options! DJ Commish is a natural in front of the camera, the biggest obstacle was getting him to part with his blackberry! He's addicted! After the shoot, they had a sitdown with Commish and asked some interesting questions, cant wait until the feature comes out! Make sure you check out www.manikmag.com on November 15th when the featre drops and make sure you log onto www.urbanlatinoradio.com every Monday through Thursday 4-6pm to check out DJ Commish / www.DJCommish.com

Gotham Magazine / Hennessy Artistry Event

I've been a bit busy lately, but quickly catching up. Want to tell you about one of the best nights I've had in a long time!
Gotham Magazine had its 10th Annual Gala last week at Capitale and what an amazing event it was! Amare Stoudemire , Mary J Blige, Ed Westwick, Jonathan Cheban (Spin Crowd), Amanda Diva and the lovely Olivia. Making sure my girls got on the carpet, interviews and meet and greets, then... on to the next.
Hip-Hop was alive again at the Hennessy Artistry event held at Ciprianis Wall Street. So many artists came out for a memmorable concert, The Isley Brothers, Common, Mos Def, Eve, Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu and even Bobby Brown! After getting the job done on the carpet, I was able to enjoy and be a fan of true hip hop.
The night didnt end there... Olivia was hosting Director, Jessy Terrero's birthday party at Empire Room, and thats where it got a little crazy! Shout out to everyone who came out, Selita Ebanks, Shawn "Pecas" , Jessy and Uly T, DJ Clue, Treach and Vinnie from Naughty by Nature and DJ Envy.
Got home at 6am and was back in the city by 9am... ah... the good life.

Should I be...

Jillian Valentin
www.Twitter.com/JillianValentin
JillianV@urbanlatinoradio.fm

I've come a long way from where I once was, as I was in a bad place, mentally, emotionally, career wise! I have had ups and downs. And am still pushing to make it! Ever since ULR and SLJE I have been happier then I have been in a long time! B4 this I was in a music group busting my ass, pushing for us to make and was carrying all the weight alone! I have been taken advantage of a whole lot in my life because I am what my close friends call me "Too Nice". Somehow it doesn't stop me from being good to people even when they aren't doing the same back!

I still have my moments that are less happy then others but over all I feel I'm in a good place. For some reason I can't let go of the over trying, over thinking, "Too Nice" person in me... I have thick skin, however should I be different? Should I be a lil bit meaner and take advantage of the people just like ones who have to me, with out one thought?

Have you ever asked yourself that b4? Are you too nice? I do have very few people in my life that are just as I am, maybe some that tougher, but they are good to me! Mentally I'm too helpful and unselfish of a person to be in this industry, but my heart wants what it wants. Not everyone is going to be great to everyone, but at least you might be lucky enough to find a few who see the same way you do! In the end, just be who you are no matter how much you may be pushed around! Keep your head up and know that Karma will take care of the rest!

5 Inch Heel Drama

Hey Girls! It’s been a while but I came back just in time to give you some hints on how to take care of your Giuseppe’s!

We all know it’s about that time of year again where the rain, snow and slush tend to ruin our most prized possession’s… our 5inch heels! Wearing your brand new heather gray suede Weitzman’s and BAM… the mother of all tornadoes decides to hit you on your way out of work! Well don’t fret… I’ve got your fix!

For suede shoes… the brush is your friend. Whatever you do make sure the shoes are dry first before you brush! Always brush in the same direction to get rid of dirt, (don’t go back and forth like if you’re cleaning the tub with Mistolin). For marks, try using a pencil eraser and for the dreaded water stains…wet the entire outside of the shoe by applying a light coat of water with a nail brush. Use a sponge or dry cloth to soak up excess water, and then let the shoes dry at least overnight. Then brush them up in the am! Remember… there’s always suede protector available!

Leather shoes are a bit easier to deal with, you should always stain guard them, one of my faves is Leather Spa’s Shoe Protector. Also baby wipes work miracles for spots if you’re caught in the storm.

Hope this helped you ladies a bit… and remember, before going out with the rent on your feet, there’s always www.weather.com

Budget Fashionista

Sitting in bed last week (while doing my nails) I came to think about what a toll the economy has taken on us… truly a recession. I also came to realize that like me, a lot of you all are shopaholics, how can we be on a budget and still get those new Vince Camuto boots (Size 6.5 if anyone wants to be generous)? Well, I did a little research and found 5 great sites that would give you your biggest bang for your buck! Ready? Get your pen and paper out… or your iPad…

www.thebudgetfashionista.com

www.reverse-reverse.com

www.giltfuse.com (this one is a personal favorite!)

www.wishpot.com

www.shopittome.com

You will be so pleased with these sites, talk about being a fashionista on a budget! Like Drake said… “Thank me later”!!!

TBB 1ST ANNIVERSARY COVERAGE WITH JDM

TBB (The Bronx Boys)
First anniversary in 35 years covered by
JDM-Jackie da Model

The "Jackie Speaks" Show Exclusively on
Thursdays 8-10pm Est

E: Jackiedamodel@gmail.com

Being an 80's baby I naturally grew up extremely fond of all that is hip hop culture. From the art perception in Graffiti that some saw as vandalism, to the intriguing coordination of "popping and locking" and "rocking" that is known today as "Breaking". My generation that being 18-25 years old, was molded by mainly Rock Steady Crew and RUN DMC and were blindly forgetting to pay homage and recognition to the originators and pioneers above them. There are "rocking" crews that are out now that are so unaware of their "ancestors" in the world of Hip Hop but claim that they are "the best" in their dance genre, and proceed with arrogance. It is unbelievable. I wish they could have attended and seen the unity and peace among these men, and all the originators of their favorite "moves" and or "styles".

Many don't realize it but Latino's are originators or heavily involved in a lot of music and dance. The Bronx was the borough in New York City where TBB originated, it then became a world wide affair of people starting or joining "crews" of their own for the love of the culture. In 1998 I was in high school and what we called the "bruck up" and "heel and toe" etc.. are very similar to popping and locking and the footwork of the breakers. It just had a Caribbean flow to it mixing reggae with body language be it hostile or romantic. Body Language plays a major role in any form of dance, it tells a story with every movement and loops you into the person's emotions as they go.

It was an honor to attend the first ever anniversary in 35 years to TBB aka The Bronx Boys Rocking Crew and learn more about HIP HOP History on an up close and personal level. My invitation came from one of the original members of The Rock Steady Crew Johnny "Cheesecake" Barretto after my posting on Face book riling up my fan base to vote for RSC to teach me how to break live on camera!. He communicated with Aby who is the man behind all of this!!

He introduced me to the greats including but not limited to: The Zulu Nation, Black Spades, Pop Master Fabel VP of RSC, Trac 2 Star Child of Rock, TBB members, Rock Steady Crew, Ready to Rock, The Original Breakers, Ramel the MC, John Conzo, Tony Tone of Cold Crush Brothers, DJ Outlaw, DJ Juneski, B Boy Speedy, B Boy London, Straight Man, Rubber band, Graffiti artist and Designer Trace 2, Ness, Aby's beautiful wife Ceci and so many more. I interviewed many of them live on camera and mingled as I absorbed a historical moment in HIP HOP History. I met the men who started what we call "break dancing" now and learned how they came to be and what their places are in society today. I can say they were all very inspiring and positive.

I attended both the anniversary held at The Betances Community Center as well as the celebration after party at "The Basement", which was actually in the basement of a building in the Bronx where they keep Hip Hop alive. "The Basement" was a graffiti decorated room with a DJ Set Up, a Tiled floor for the "Breakers", some great and talented people and great music. It passes for a very cool hip hop lounge in my book, something you could see in NYC nightlife. Kudos to the event coordinators and participants it was a great day for Jackie da Model. Thanks to that day I will be part of follow up events and part of Hip Hop History one moment at a time!. Peace and LOve .

"Following the road less traveled by"!

Jillian Valentin
www.Twitter.com/JillianValentin
JillianV@urbanlatinoradio.fm

In my years in this beautiful life, I know as well as everyone else that the hardest thing to do in this world is live in it! But another fact that's hard to grasp is "following the road less traveled by"!

Would you give up the strait path you've worked so hard for, to chase a dream? Even if you’d make less then half of what u have to start but you would be happier?
For many people that's a pill that's hard to swallow!

I have never done everything like everyone else, I have always shifted my own path, studding one thing after another leaving when I was finished, yet I lost interest and started something else. I always took a chance for my happiness rather then stick on a strait path that would probably be a smarter choice. But my passion for happiness was, and is greater then wealth! Is that wrong? Would you give it up for a chance, risk it all at the bottom of your dream? I haven't always known what I wanted, but I knew what I loved and I knew I would never be satisfied if I wasn't doing exactly the thing that made me happy, even if it meant a lot more tears and a lot more sacrifice.

Let's say you studied years and years, honor student, started off teaching, then knew it wasn't enough, so went back with depression and all and became a lawyer after many more years, achieved the American dream, was ok and only getting better! Would you give it all up to peruse acting? Start at the bottom and chance everything you worked for? Just to give yourself the chance to live the life you have always secretly wanted? My sister is doing just that! What's crazier is I always wished I followed the unhappier strait line instead of this crazy fantasy of happiness that causes me grayer hairs then heart break, but I love what I do regardless. And the day that she opened up saying she admired my strength in following my dream, I knew maybe this, my dream, was all for her! And was happier for it!

We are told since were able to understand that we follow a path and live a normal life. But some of us risk it all for the thrill of the un known, for the smile of knowing your doing what you want even in the struggle of it. I remember when I met my friend and designer of Laurelux who was working at another design company and doing her designs on the side. We spoke one day about her leaving her job so that she could take a risk and chance on herself for once to follow her dream! Tons of magazines, shows, and celeb’s later, she's doing exactly what she loves and not looking back!

Everything I have gone through has lead me to this moment even just writing this blog that gives me my passion for writing, right back! Could you do it? Would you do it? It may not be what everyone feels is right but I'm happier struggling doing what I love then sitting in my old office, stable and in a great financial place, then helping someone else I didn’t believe in, get on stage and in front of a camera, make it instead of me or an artist I actually believed deserved it! I'm not saying give up school because its the one thing you should follow! God forbid it all fails at least you have an education, however I guess I'm just saying if you have no other priorities but yourself could you give up the painted yellow brick road for the un paved, un leveled, over grown weeded up foggy path? Just for the sense of happiness? This isn't something I can answer for you as I already have for myself. But maybe this might make you appreciate or chase what's in your heart!
Good Luck.
